Montreal, The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) expresses its profound sorrow and alarm at the tragic death of Nooran Rezay, a teenager fatally shot by police in Longueuil. Losing a young life in these circumstances is heartbreaking and a devastation to his family, loved ones and to communities across Quebec and Canada.
His father, Sharif Rezay, stated: “I have lost my son in a way no parent should ever experience. We ask only for truth, justice, and dignity for his memory. Our pain is beyond words, but we want answers, and we want no other family to go through this tragedy.”
Friends of Nooran shared their grief, saying: “He was full of life and dreams. We cannot believe he is gone. Our friend did not deserve this, and we will remember him forever.”
Witnesses of the shooting also expressed shock and called for justice: “What we saw was terrifying. We are still in disbelief. The truth must come out so that justice is done and such a tragedy never happens again.”
We call on the police and responsible authorities to carry out a fast, thorough and fully independent investigation. The family and the public deserve clear, transparent answers as quickly as possible. An impartial inquiry, with civilian or judicial oversight where appropriate, is essential to establish the facts, ensure accountability and restore public confidence.
At this painful time, we urge restraint from speculation and from politicizing the event. Spreading rumours or inflammatory rhetoric only deepens the family’s suffering and risks inflaming tensions. We also call on elected officials and community leaders to prioritize truth, dignity and calm.
The CMF offers its deepest condolences to the Rezay family and stands ready to support them and to work with community organizations and authorities to ensure the investigation is independent, transparent and comprehensive.
