“I Felt My Dignity Erased”: Women Share Testimonies on the Impact of Recent CAQ Laws
As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting individuals affected by recent legislation in Quebec, particularly women and girls, the Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) has held a series of meetings with Quebecers women directly impacted by the implications of Bill 94, recently adopted by the Coalition Avenir Québec government.
During these sessions, participants shared deeply personal accounts of the challenges they have faced since the law came into effect. Many spoke emotionally about the social and psychological toll, describing experiences that left them feeling shocked, humiliated, and uncertain about their future.
One participant reflected on her experience, stating: “I never imagined I would feel this exposed and uncertain about my future in my own society. I left that meeting feeling both unheard and deeply shaken, as if my dignity as a woman had been quietly erased.”
Several women expressed that the process surrounding the law’s implementation left them feeling that their dignity and integrity were not fully respected. Others raised concerns about the potential long-term consequences for their professional and personal lives.
For many, the FMC-CMF consultations provided a rare and essential space to speak openly about experiences they described as both painful and isolating.
These discussions are part of a broader initiative launched by the Canadian Muslim Forum to support individuals affected by recent legislative changes.
Consultation Gatherings Announced
The FMC-CMF has also announced the launch of a consultation service aimed at offering guidance and support to those navigating the implications of new laws in Quebec.
FMC-CMF consultative sessions provides a confidential setting where individuals can share concerns and receive legal and social advice tailored to their specific situations. Specialists involved in the initiative will offer information, orientation, and guidance based on each case, helping participants better understand their options and identify possible paths forward.
The FMC-CMF states that the goal of this service is to ensure that those affected have access to reliable information and appropriate support resources.
The Canadian Muslim Forum concluded by emphasizing the importance of solidarity and community collaboration during this challenging period, expressing hope that individuals facing difficulties will find meaningful support, understanding, and guidance.
