Canadian Muslim Forum Strongly Condemns Hate-Motivated, Anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic Incident Targeting Canadian Institute of Islamic Civilization in Montreal
The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) strongly and unequivocally condemns the appalling hate-motivated attack that targeted the Canadian Institute of Islamic Civilization (CIIC)-MAC in downtown Montreal.
This shameful act of anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic aggression occurred amid ongoing global outrage over the continued bloodshed in Gaza, where countless innocent children, women, and men have lost their lives. In a moment when the world is calling for peace and justice, Montreal has instead witnessed an act of hatred that contradicts the true human social fabric of our city, Montreal.
Such an attack on a faith and cultural institution is not only an assault on one community, it is an assault on our Quebec and Canadian’s shared values of inclusion, dignity, and human rights. It reflects a disturbing rise in hate-fueled rhetoric and violence, which must be condemned and confronted by all sectors of society.
The Canadian Muslim Forum calls on all levels of government to:
Urgently investigate this incident and recognize it for what it is a hate crime.
Guarantee the safety and protection of places of worship and all targeted communities.
Take meaningful action to counter the rise of anti-Palestinian racism, Islamophobia, and all forms of bigotry.
We also call on all stakeholders in society including elected officials, community leaders, and institutions to speak out clearly and publicly against this act. Silence in the face of hate enables its spread. Leadership must rise to the moment.
At this critical time, we issue a call for unity. We urge all Montrealers of all backgrounds, faiths, and walks of life to come together and stand firmly against hate, violence, and division. Montreal must remain a city of peace, harmony, and coexistence. Acts of hate have no place here, and they will not define who we are.
The CMF expresses its full solidarity with the CIIC-MAC community and all those impacted. We remain unwavering in our commitment to justice, respect, and the protection of fundamental freedoms for all.
