Peaceful Public Stand in Montreal in Support of Equal Rights and Quebec Women’s Freedom

The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF)  and the The Consultative Table of the Muslim Community of Quebec (TCCMQ) are calling on Quebecers to participate in a peaceful public stand in Montreal in solidarity with equal rights for all citizens under the theme:

“No Compromise on Quebec Women’s Rights”

Montreal – The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) and the Consultative Table of the Muslim Community of Quebec (TCCMQ) are inviting Quebecers from all backgrounds to join a peaceful public stand on Saturday, May 9, in downtown Montreal to reaffirm the importance of the Quebec and Canadian Charters of Rights and Freedoms amid ongoing public debate surrounding several provincial laws adopted by the CAQ government.

The public stand comes in the context of growing concern and criticism regarding laws such as Bill 9, Bill 94, and Bill 21, which many community members and civil society organizations consider restrictive to individual freedoms and equality rights, particularly affecting Quebec women’s freedom of choice, access to employment, and participation in public life.

The organizers emphasized that the purpose of the gathering is to peacefully raise a united voice in defense of:

  • Women’s rights for all women

  • Equality among all citizens

  • Freedom of choice and dignity

  • A harmonious, inclusive, and peaceful society

The event will also include testimonies from Quebec women directly impacted by recently adopted CAQ laws, sharing their personal experiences and the social and professional consequences they have faced.

In solidarity with Quebec women, representatives from the Fédération des femmes du Québec will also participate in the public stand to support the protection of women’s rights, equality, and dignity for all.

The peaceful public stand will take place on:

Saturday, May 9, 2026
2:00 PM
770 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal

The organizers stressed that the event is entirely peaceful and intended to encourage dialogue, mutual respect, and the protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of all residents of Quebec and Canada.

“Our message is simple: protecting the rights and dignity of every citizen strengthens Quebec’s social harmony, democracy, and collective future. We believe dialogue, respect, and inclusion are the path forward.”
— Samer Majzoub, President of the Canadian Muslim Forum

Media representatives, community leaders, civil society organizations, and members of the public are encouraged to attend.
