The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) is outraged and deeply shocked by the recent hate-motivated threats made in Newmarket, Ontario, where an individual allegedly vowed to kill a Muslim and blow up a mosque. Such threats represent not only a direct danger to the Muslim community but also a grave assault on the safety and values of all Canadians.
Islamophobia is not a distant problem, it is a growing and dangerous threat that continues to put lives at risk in our cities and neighbourhoods. Left unchecked, Islamophobia fuels division, violence, and fear, undermining the very principles of dignity, equality, and freedom that Canada stands for.
The Canadian Muslim Forum calls on:
-
Political leaders at all levels to move beyond symbolic statements and take urgent, concrete measures against Islamophobia and hate-driven violence.
-
Governments across Canada to strengthen legislation, accountability, and funding for initiatives that confront systemic Islamophobia and protect communities.
-
All elected officials to show leadership by speaking out forcefully and consistently against Islamophobia, instead of ignoring or downplaying its dangers.
We also urge law enforcement agencies to ensure robust protection for mosques and community spaces, and to treat hate-motivated threats with the seriousness they demand.
The Canadian Muslim Forum stands in full solidarity with the Muslim community in Newmarket and across Canada. We reaffirm our determination to work with allies and partners to ensure that no Canadian ever lives in fear because of their faith or identity.
Silence in the face of Islamophobia is dangerous to our social safety as Canadians. Action is overdue.
